wow. that is a bit troubling... sigh. i guess it could be worse ?!
I think one of the best musical settings of Psalm 40 is indeed, U2's "Forty." It under certain circumstances it could perhaps be appropriate for liturgical use in some way - I could see it in 50 years as a Lenten Communion hymn or something.
i am episcopalian and, alas, my fellow episcopalians do these U2 Eucharists....they even call them (gasp!) U2charists. a friend of mine and i have actually written extensively about why we find this to be inappropriate...i can send you those comments if you're interested.
